Em and Dakota

Just before leaving on a short trip to Texas recently, a call came in from one of my editors asking for some “fresh” images for an article I wrote on photographing pets.  There was a short deadline for the submission.  Luckily, the friends I was visiting in Texas provided the perfect models (well…..nearly perfect).  Whenever my colleagues who specialize in children’s portraiture ask me how I cope with the challenges of shooting pets, I just look at them and smile.  As you can see here, it’s not typically the pets that are the challenge!

Actually, Em was terrific.  With a mother and step-father who are never without a camera in arms reach (both incredible photographers), she gets photographed a lot.  This is just her way of asserting herself!

Keep your eyes open for the article in Dog World magazine on digital pet photography.  There are all sorts of tips for photographing pets with a digital point and shoot camera.
